Dan Cooper-Gavin rounds up the cultural week across Birmingham and beyond – taking in art, theatre, film, dance, talks, festivals and plenty in between, with guests from across the West Midlands’ arts sector.
Along the way, we play a genre-defying rollercoaster of musical outliers – expect wild experimentalism, shimmering jangle, bruising techno, scratchy lo-fi, irresistible pop, swooning strings, avant noise, gospel, folk, drone, black metal, rocksteady, 60s rock and roll, or something else entirely.
Each week producer Guy shares a sonic curiosity from his spectacularly eclectic Record Box. Loads of fun – tune in!
Theatre Of The Absurd is reverting to a new monthly format! The new-look show will be on the airwaves on the first Tuesday of the month – at the usual time, 7pm – with your essential guide to Birmingham’s cultural scene and a genre-busting selection of musical outliers. Huge thanks for listening to the weekly shows over the past year and a half, I’ve really enjoyed wittering on at you and inflicting my music collection on you. Huge thanks too to the all-star line-up of guests who’ve appeared on the show – keep up the excellent work! And high fives all round to the wonderful Brum Radio crew for being the wind beneath my wings – including Rich, Pete, Robin, Autumn, Ryan and especially superstar producer Guy. Be sure to tune in on Tuesday 1st August at 7pm for the first monthly edition of the show – it’s gonna be good. Cheers!
