Exclusive show alert: the xChange Festival Feminist Playlist show

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2020 Brum Radio is proud to announce an exclusive show! In collaboration with xChange Festival at Birmingham City University, we will host the second edition of the official Feminist Playlist. Dr. Asya Draganova and Maggie Urbaniec guide you through the two-part show – broadcasted on Brum Radio on the 2nd and 23rd of March at 4:00 – 6:00 PM (BST).

So, what is it all about? The Feminist Playlist features songs selected by contributors from Birmingham City University, Brum Radio and the city. It’s a group of creatives, music fans, and cultural researchers – across the board. The stories attached to the tracks discuss personal connections to feminist ideas, appreciation of female artists in a male-dominated industry or just the enjoyment of music across the spectrum, from Punk through Pop to Jazz.

Above all, the two episodes of the show will feature live appearances from contributors to the playlist. They’ll be telling us about their selection of three songs and feminist interpretations.

Dr Asya Draganova is a popular music culture lecturer and researcher at the Birmingham Institute of Media and English. Maggie Urbaniec is a radio producer and volunteer at Brum Radio, currently doing her MA in Media and Cultural Studies. The xChange Festival is an annual festival of presentations, provocations and participation at Birmingham City University, in celebration of International Women’s Day.
