Speakeasy with Susie

Suzette Pluck (Susie) presents Speakeasy every Wednesday at 2pm. Her show is a mix of chat with guests from all walks of Birmingham life and the latest local music. Susie shares some more about herself and the show.

“I was born into music. I first went to Notting Hill Carnival at five months old and grew up in a family where music of all genres from reggae to classical was the soundtrack. There was music everywhere I went as a child from family parties to break dance competitions on my estate.

I’ve lived in Brum for 28 years first venturing up from London in the early 90’s, as part of the rave scene. I fell in love with Brum and have lived here 28 years, bringing up my now adult sons.

I sang in a band The Redbulls for a couple of years around 2010 and know many people in the creative industry. I want to champion local talent and business including collaborations outside of Brum… there’s a diverse industry and up here and I would love to support in any way I can, so the talent feels supported by their hometown.

We love to interview people who have not had that kind of exposure and people who are experts in their field with connections to Brum. I’m very grateful for my producer Lola who pings me a new band every week. As I said I love all kinds of music – so it gives the show an eclectic feel.

The show less than a year old so we’re building it up slowly and now we get approached to ask if we can have them on as word of mouth gets us out there. We’ve even been approached by restaurants too… so we love that!”
